1994 was a great year – not only did we have the World Premiere of Mariano Baino’s debut feature ‘Dark Waters’ but it also gave me an excuse to show his glorious short movie ‘Caruncula’.

Having closed the 1993 all-nighter with the superb ‘Braindead’, I’d been fretting all year about how to top that with my opening film for ’94. Easy. Thankfully, in 1963, Robert Wise made a wee film called ‘The Haunting’ which is an undisputed classic and looked divine on the big screen. Guest of Honour, Mariano Baino, surprise hit of the fest, Ferrara’s ‘Bodysnatchers’ and yet another night of no sleep, much vodka, and relief that 1993 wasn’t a one-hit wonder. |
